The Green Capital of Corsica
Corte and its region, an area in the heart of the Isle of Beauty, the green capital of Corsica. Situated at the foot of the Restonica and Tavignano valleys, Corte overlooks the Bozio and Venacais regions. As soon as you climb a little, the Tyrrhenian Sea is in the background.
Corsica is too often reduced to a crowded GR20 and a few seaside resorts such as Calvi, L’Île-Rousse and Porto-Vecchio with their magical beaches. An island whose coastline will leave no one indifferent.
You could be forgiven for forgetting that Corsica is a mountain rising from the sea, with peaks as high as the Alps, and that the interior of the Isle of Beauty is dotted with typical and authentic villages. The imprint of history can be felt in these landscapes, which allow us to imagine these once cultivated lands.
Corte is the town of students, with the only university in Corsica. Today it is the largest of the small towns in the interior of Corsica.
A former historical capital, Corte is transforming itself and accelerating its ecological transition to become the Green Capital of Corsica.
You can also hike through the famous Tavignano and Restonica valleys, visit the Corsican Museum or cycle along quiet back roads to discover areas such as Bozio. In this land of water, you will be able to descend some magnificent gorges, cross the region on horseback, climb the unique Via Cordata of the Restonica and, for the more adventurous, practise climbing on its few famous long routes and its cliffs. All this in the heart of Corsica.
If you miss the beaches, they are not far away; you will discover some splendid stretches of fine sand an hour’s drive from Corte.
